Question: DeltaCopy server is dumping too many INFO messages in the event viewer. Can I stop it?
Answer: By default rsync writes data to a syslog server. When a syslog server is not available, CYGWIN dumps every message to Windows Event creating hundreds of events.

Follow the steps below to specify a log file for rsync daemon.
  • Open Windows Explorer (File manager) on the machine where DeltaCopy server is running
  • Locate the installation folder for DeltaCopy server. It will probably be in c:\Program Files\Synametrics Technologies\DeltaCopy or c:\DeltaCopy
  • Locate a file called deltacd.conf. Make a backup of this file and open it in any editor like Notepad
  • This file contains blocks for every shared drive. For every shared folder add the following line:

    log file = /cygdrive/c/SomeFolder/DeltaCopyTest.log

  • Make sure "SomeFolder" exist on your C drive. DO NOT specify a path on the root of C drive. Windows OS does not like that.
  • Here is a sample block.

    [Test]

        path = /cygdrive/e/Backup/Test
        comment = Testing only
        read only = false
        log file = /cygdrive/c/mylogs/DeltaCopyTest.log

  • Restart DeltaCopy server.
